This notice explains what personal data is processed when you read Saude Animal or subscribe to The Saude Animal Sunday Note, and what you can do about it. Last updated .

Because the publisher is established in Estonia, a member state of the European Union, personal data is processed under the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and Estonian data protection law. Readers in Canada also have rights under Canadian privacy law, including the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA); where Canadian law gives you a stronger right, we respect it.
2. What we process, and why
a. Reading the site: server logs
Like every web server, ours records technical details of each request: IP address, date and time, the page requested, the referring page and browser identifiers. This is needed to deliver the pages and to keep the site secure. Legal basis: our legitimate interest in operating a secure website (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Logs are kept for a short period for security and fault-finding, then deleted or aggregated.
b. The Saude Animal Sunday Note
If you subscribe, we process your email address and nothing else: no name, no address, no financial information. We also keep the date and time of your subscription and confirmation, as a record of your consent.
- Purpose: sending the newsletter you asked for.
- Legal basis: your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)).
- Double opt-in: after you submit the form, we send one email asking you to confirm. If you do not confirm, nothing else is sent and the address is deleted.
- Withdrawal: every email contains an unsubscribe link, and you can also write to privacy@saudeanimal.com. Withdrawal is free and takes effect immediately.
c. Campaign parameters
If you arrive from an advertisement, the link may contain campaign parameters such as a click or campaign identifier. Our script keeps these in your browser's session storage during your visit and adds them as hidden fields to the sign-up form, so that a subscription can be attributed to the campaign that brought you. They contain no personal details, they are discarded when the browser is closed, and we never put personal or sensitive data in a web address.
d. Advertising measurement
This site is promoted through paid advertising. Advertising platforms offer measurement tags that record that a visitor arrived from an advertisement. The site is built so that any such tag would load only after you choose “Accept all” in the cookie banner, and only on article and section pages, never on legal, contact or thank-you pages. If you choose “Essential only” or ignore the banner, no measurement script is loaded.
At the date of this notice, no advertising or measurement tag is active on saudeanimal.com. If one is added, this section will be updated before it goes live to name the provider, the data it receives and any international transfer safeguards. Legal basis, if you accept: your consent (GDPR Article 6(1)(a)), which you can withdraw by clearing this site's stored data in your browser; the banner then reappears.
3. Cookies and similar storage

You can delete all of this at any time in your browser's settings for this site.
4. Fonts, images and outside content
Fonts, icons and images are served from our own server. We do not load fonts, analytics, social media widgets, video players or advertising content from third-party networks, so simply reading a page does not disclose your IP address to anyone else. Links to official sources such as Canada.ca are ordinary links; nothing is requested from those sites unless you click.
5. Who receives data
We do not sell personal data or share it for anyone else's marketing. Data is disclosed only to our hosting provider (server logs) and our email delivery provider (newsletter addresses), each acting as a processor under a data processing agreement, and to a public authority where the law requires it. Where a processor is outside the European Economic Area, the transfer relies on an adequacy decision or the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.
6. How long we keep data
- Newsletter address: until you unsubscribe, then deleted, apart from a minimal suppression record so we do not email you again by mistake.
- Unconfirmed sign-ups: deleted shortly after the confirmation window passes.
- Server logs: a short period for security and diagnostics.
- Correspondence: as long as needed to deal with your enquiry.
7. Your rights
You may ask for access to your data and a copy of it, correction, deletion, restriction, objection to processing, and data portability, and you may withdraw consent at any time. Write to privacy@saudeanimal.com. We reply within one month, free of charge.
8. Complaints
You can complain to a data protection authority:
- Estonia (lead authority): Andmekaitse Inspektsioon (Estonian Data Protection Inspectorate), Tatari 39, 10134 Tallinn, www.aki.ee.
- Canada: the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada, www.priv.gc.ca, or your provincial privacy commissioner where applicable.
- Elsewhere in the EEA: the authority in your country of residence.
9. Children
The site is written for adults. We do not knowingly collect data from children.
10. Security, and what we never ask for
We will never ask you, by email, telephone or on this website, for a Social Insurance Number, bank or card details, or a My Service Canada Account or CRA sign-in. No part of this site needs them. If anyone asks for them in our name, they are not acting for us; please tell us at privacy@saudeanimal.com.
11. Changes
If we change how personal data is handled, including activating a measurement tag, we will update this notice and its date before the change takes effect.
